CARE & REPAIR

How to clean a canvas bag without guessing

Start with the care label, not the word “canvas”. Linings, embroidery and coatings change the method.

Before you start

Empty every pocket. Check the sewn-in care label and any maker instructions. A canvas outer does not establish that the whole bag is washable.

  1. 01

    Read the whole label

Look for washing, bleaching, drying and professional-care instructions. If the label says not to wash, do not soak the bag or put it in a machine.

  2. 02

    Remove loose dirt first

Gently brush off dry dust with a soft brush. Check corners and pockets. Avoid scraping embroidery, printed areas or damaged fabric.

  3. 03

    Spot-test before treating a mark

Only if the label allows wet cleaning, test a little water and a mild detergent in a hidden area. Stop if colour transfers, a coating changes or the lining reacts. Blot the mark gently; do not scrub it harder.

  4. 04

    Dry in its natural shape

Follow the drying symbol. Keep the bag supported and the lining open for airflow. Do not tumble dry, iron or use direct heat unless the label expressly permits it. Store only once completely dry.

Know the limits

  • No verified care label? Ask for the exact product instructions before washing.
  • These steps do not establish bleach tolerance, machine washability or colourfastness.
  • Leather trim, adhesives, coatings and mixed-material bags may need a different method.
